Last Call, the musical, is the latest “playcert” from Jason Ellis, the playwright and Executive Director for Momentum Collective Inc. Part play and part music concert, this 2 hour and 30 minutes production features 26 performers from the local theater community and 20 original songs that celebrate the legacy of African American vocalists of the Motown era. Originally set to open in 2020, the production was delayed for two years due to the ongoing pandemic.
Set in 1960s Washington, DC the musical focuses on the unifying principle that, there is nothing women can’t achieve through sisterhood, and that friendships forged through adversity produces something rare, special, and valuable. Agatha and Gail, the protagonists in this musical, come from different backgrounds and join forces to pursue personal goals but end up changing the world.
The production will run July 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9 at the Richard Kauffman Auditorium located at 1108 Jefferson St. Alexandria, VA 22314.
Proceeds from the production support the work of Momentum Collective Inc., including funding scholarships for first generation college students, youth leadership development programs, and free after-school arts education programs for underserved youth. Tickets are available now.
