Little Shop of Horrors

Runtime: 1 hour 40 mins | 2 Acts with a 20 mins intermission | M:12 ; F: 34

Synopsis:
The story is set in the 1960s on Skid Row, a run-down neighborhood where Seymour Krelborn, a shy and awkward floral assistant, works for the grumpy Mr. Mushnik. Seymour is secretly in love with his co-worker, Audrey, who is trapped in a relationship with a sadistic dentist, Orin Scrivello. During a mysterious total eclipse of the sun, Seymour finds a “strange and unusual” plant that looks like a Venus flytrap. He names it Audrey II in honor of his crush. The plant initially wilts, but Seymour accidentally discovers it only thrives on human blood. As Seymour feeds it drops of blood from his fingers, the plant grows rapidly and begins to talk, promising Seymour fame, fortune, and Audrey’s love—for a price. As the plant grows to monstrous proportions, its hunger increases from mere drops of blood to full human meals. Seymour is eventually forced into a series of moral compromises to keep his success alive. Seymour realizes that Audrey II is actually an alien creature with plans for global domination.

Our youth production removes the mature language and intense violence from the original production, and provides a softer version that is suitable for audiences of all ages. Other adaptations include having Mr. & Mrs. Mushnik, and dancing plants! The score remains a high-energy mix of 1960s rock, doo-wop, and Motown by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. There are 14 dance numbers in this production providing a highly energetic and enthralling showcase.
